WHAT’S ON…
Nice jazz Festival
2009 - from July 18 to 25
Created in 1948, the Nice Jazz Festival was the first Jazz Festival in France. It was in 1974 that the Nice Jazz Festival really acquired its identity. That was when “La grande parade du Jazz” made it world famous.
On the slopes of the Cimiez hill, over eight days in July, the festival takes over this enchanting rural space of olive groves and Gallo-Roman Arenas. Over several decades, the greatest names in jazz have performed on the three open-air stages under the starry sky of the Côte d’Azur: from Louis Armstrong to Dizzy Gillespie, from Django Reinhart to Diana Krall, all the legendary artists have set the night on fire at previous festivals, to their fans’ great pleasure. The convivial design lets each visitor wander from one concert to another as they please and therefore really get the most out of the fantastic programming, which is constantly being updated.
